Responsible borrowing
Applying for an emergency loan
An emergency loan may help with an urgent, necessary and unexpected cost, but it is still a credit agreement that must be repaid with interest and fees.
Before applying
- Confirm that the expense is urgent and cannot reasonably be postponed.
- Check available savings, insurance, employer benefits or payment arrangements first.
- Borrow only what is needed for the specific expense.
- Make sure the repayment fits after rent, food, transport, utilities and existing debt.
Before accepting
Read the personalised quotation and agreement. Check the principal debt, interest, fees, total repayment, debit date and consequences of missed payment. Ask for help if anything is unclear.
Avoid repeated emergency borrowing
If emergencies regularly require credit, review the underlying budget and seek appropriate financial guidance. Repeated short-term borrowing can increase financial pressure.
